Introduction

The International Customs Tariff Bureau (BITD), established by The Convention of July 5, 1890, which created the International Union for the Publication of Customs Tariffs, translates and publishes customs tariffs.

The BITD produces the International Customs Journal.

Customs tariffs are published in the Journal, in the five major trading languages: English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

The Journals shown in this web site are available in printed format or as interactive CD-ROMs.

When translating customs tariffs, the BITD makes use of official documents such as: the World Customs Organization’s Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System and the Explanatory Notes thereto,  the SAC (Sistem Arancelario Centroaméricano – the Central American Tariff System), Nandina (Agreement of Cartagena), Mercosur and other official nomenclatures as well as documents providing the customs value and origin of the goods.

The BITD, with its unique experience in the translation of customs matters, often collaborates with Member Countries to “standardize” their tariffs, that is, it helps them to adapt the translation of their national texts to customs terminology in accordance with the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System, if their national language is not one of those listed in the Convention.
